Sometimes you have to stop at wonder at how amazing people can be. In the Latin nation of Paraguay is a village built entirely around a trash dump. The residents scour the refuse and somehow manage to live off of their discoveries. Not only do they live, but they thrive and find hope and satisfaction. They also find music. One day a discovery in the pile of garbage revealed a broken violin, someone decided to fix it up as give it to a local musician who immediately saw the potential and began building orchestral instruments completely from trash. He then created a music school for children. The Landfill Harmonic was formed and is amazing people everywhere. In an affluent society such as ours, we can easily loose focus on the daily struggles the majority of the world experiences that because of our super-abundance we don’t have to face. It is a good thing to reflect on the struggles of others as it puts our lives into proper perspective. No matter how bad times may be for us no one lives in a garbage dump. Go to church and everyday count you blessings. And please remember when you clean your garage to donate your yard sale pile to charity or bless a needy neighbour.
